Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field is required
- SPICE certification is preferred
- American Heart Association BLS certification is required
Essential Functions:
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of the complete infection control process in healthcare settings.
- Understands risk-stratified statistics applicable to trending HAIs.
- Develops and implements a system to identify, investigate, report, and prevent the spread of HAIs among patients of all ages and healthcare personnel.
- Reviews cultures and sensitivities reported by microbiology laboratory to determine if infections are healthcare-associated.
- Collaborates with staff nurses on patient care units to monitor occurrence of HAIs.
- Investigates infections, especially those exceeding established thresholds or occurring in clusters by patient care units.
- Conducts inservice education on infection prevention and control housewide.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and improving infection control practices.
- Reviews and revises department policies and procedures related to infection control concurrently.
- Communicates infection control activities to administration, Performance Improvement Committee, medical staff, and MEC through Infection Control Committee minutes and/or Committee Chairperson.
